Mike, it sounds like you have the wrong hydraulic plugs in the rear of the power-trol valve box.
~The ones you need for rockshaft operation have open fronts & no pipe threads on the cap part that sticks out.
~The ones needed to operate the remote cylinder will have closed fronts & pipe threads in the cap end.

Clooney and FIT, the Hydraulics GURUS, If he has the adjustable plug in the TOP ONLY with the screw off cap and lil knurled nut which opens or closes that oil port (to change form rockshaft to remote) does the LOWER plug matter or need chaged also??? I sold my last 70 and I think it had the adjustable top plug and all I had to do on it was screw it in or out to change from rockshaft to remote and never even messed with my lower one????? ???? John, the selector valve is needed in the upper hole for selection between rockshaft & remote cylinder. ~If there is a selector in the upper hole only the rockshaft will also be in the remote circuit.
~As long as there isn't anything on the rockshaft the remotes will work like that but the rockshaft will lift at the same time. In most cases it will just go up & stay up.

John T:

There seems to be some debate about whether you need two selector valves or you can get by with one. I have only had one, and all tractor I have exaqmined had but one. I would have thought that if you needed two JD would have noted that in their parts books.

The photo shows my 70D with the AA5724R selector valve with the cover cap removed, in the top hole of the PowR-Trol. A standard open-end plug is in the lower hole. Using the internal stem in the AA 5724R valve you can turn it in until seated to form a rockshaft plug, or out until the lower shoulder is flush with the cap shoulder.

The operators manual also speaks about the adjusting the left PowR-Trol mounted metering screw in until seated for remote cylinder use, and out about two turns for rockshaft use. To tell the truth, I've never fussed with mine. I think I might do that today and see what happens.

Whatever plugs are chosen, they must route the oil correctly or the rockshaft will not operate. But, one shold also try and forced the rockshaft down so that it has travel to demonstrate an upward movement when testing, since the rockshaft is gravity down only, and not spring-loaded like previous models.
