Today son #2 and grandson #3 soil tested hay fields with the 4 wheeler while son #1 moved brush that was cut last year along the fence lines with the 630 and the grapple on the loader. I grubed some trees with the 430 crawler. No it still will not keep a charge over nite and yes I know I said it was not to be used till I get it out of the primer paint into green and yellow. One hour into the prodject the return hose from the loader valves to the tank let go at the valves shooting hot oil at 900 PSI on to me dead center 9" below my belt. O.K. Dan has a screw driver in the chain saw box on the 4 wheeler. Tighten 3 hose clams and we are rolling. 15 minutes later the hose lets go again. Oil bath the same place. Send Pat to the barn for wrenchs. Hose clamps take screw driver or 5/16 wrench. Bring back oil. Rolling again. 30 minutes later I threw a track. Pat back to the barn for jack blocking and more wrenchs. Then it comes to me,,, the right track ajusters take a 1 3/8" wrench which we have but the track ajuster on the one I threw takes a 1 5/16 wrench which we don't have, we borrow. Master link was OVER WELDED in. Cold chisel and lot of hammerng and fileing with a chain saw file, as we are 1/2 mile from the grinder in the shop. Jack up crawler, aline track under the bottom rollers, lower crawler on to the track, pull track over the front idler. Not beening able to loosen the ajusters, (They are to be 14" on the springs and for some reason they are 16") removed 2 pads eather side of the master and hooked a log chain on to the track and to the 4 wheeler. pulled it close enought to get a tire iron into the master link holes. Backed up the crawler with the tire iron holding the track together til it got over two teeth on the drive spricket. Then the master would go in. Thats a day. Back to the house and wanting to be a good boy and not enter the house in my oil soaked clothes, I removed them outside. Upon entering the house in my underwear, my wife of 37 years wants to know ,,,how come with all the help we had today, no got her lawn mower going.

Pretty good. Yesterday put an offer on a 50 acre estate four blocks from my new work location. Has a recently built 5 bedroom brick home, a creek with spawning rainbow trout , insulated three car garage and decent all steel 22x40 storage shed with a concrete floor. Put the 40 on the standby alternator today for a 1-1/2hour warm up. Turned enough electrical loads on open the governor up almost all the way and make her bark. Trimmed a few dead limbs from the 82 year old maple in front of the house. My uncle was concerned as the tree was planted the day he was born. Had a fine late Easter/kids birthday dinner. Even my brother and sister, spouses and kids behaved reasonably well.

my day was not bad. i was waken up at six by my dad after about six hours of sleep from working on our 2520 last night. then i had to hurry and get dressed and do chores for a neighbor lady ( she has 3 horses and is away for the weekend), then i got home and my dad and i hooked up the trailer and ran up to whitehall to get rid of some rims. after we got back, it was time for breakfast. by this time it was noon. then we went home and i cleaned up the shop whild he took a nap. after i moved the 2520 out of the shop to wash it and all of its parts (we are in the process of getting it ready for this summer, it had a knock at high rpm's, a bent axle, a bad clutch and we dare not look in the tranny) i took a nap in the shop on the bench with all of the doors open, enjoying the weather. then i washed the tractor and put every thing away and came in the house for the night.

Hey Mike, Well, Ive had better days and Ive had worse also. Speaking of wives, I recall a spring day over 30 years ago when we were first wed and bought our first small farm of 100 acres and a nice home for $30,000 (East of Bloomfield Indiana) (thats why Im too tight to pay big bucks for a new car now) and I had an A and a wheel disk that I just bought new bolt on rear blade outriggers to level that lil ridge. Anyways, the lil woman wasnt used to a hand clutch but the foot clutch of course on the left side. Sooooo o Im way out in the field and shes drivign the tractor and pulls through a 16 foot gate with that 10 ft disk BUTTTTT T gets too close to the left side and hangs the new outrigger up against the fence post and when I YELLLLL LLLLL she hits the left brake (thinking to clutch) which makes thigns worse and bends the livin *&^%$ out of my new outrigger. I go into a tantrum runnign and yelling (we didnt have much money and I had just paid a lot for those outriggers) and she takes off to avoid me (lol wonder why) and I can still see that outer blade wobbling n flopping up n down as shes races down the field. By the time I caught up, I was too tired n winded to complain but she knew better than to stop. Then theres the time I was workign on the elecric fence and she was supposed to NOT plug it up till I yelled, I will let you guess the outcome of that one, but again, she didnt stop running till she got in the house and locked it lol.

Gotta love em, John T

Let me see if I have this right.....you spent the day with your sons and grandson driving tractors and working outdoors. You got to deal with some critical breakdowns that are typical to tractor farming and in the process honed your repair skills and helped your sons hone their's too. And don't forget Grandson..... he now thinks that tractor breakdowns are routine and repairable and NOT the end of the world, a GREAT way to look at things. Sure beats a family sitting around a case of beer and bitching about how "bad" things are and the grandkid playing "High Skool Death Rampage" or some other such thing on the compooter. Father. sons, grandson, the great outdoors and GREEN PAINT too! How much better could it get?

Pat is a dock super for a trucking co, Dan is a teacher and basketball coach at the middle school and Cassie is a chemest with a masters. 7 great grand kids all within 5 miles of the ranch. A day a grandpa's is fun with cows, calfs, horses and all those green toys. Don't know if they turned out good because of me of inspite of me. Course being a Deputy Sheriff in a rual county I knew where they were at nigth. And they are all eating home raised grass fat Herefords.

I had to play bridge with a faculty group instead of going to an auction like I wanted. Took the guys to the "shed" to look at my restored A. Hit the starter and let go as she rounded compression on the first cylinder. Half coughed, but hard enough to keep running. After 30 sec pulled the throttle back to idle at maybe 200 or less. I'm not sure three PhD's appreciated it, but I'm still purring like a the! Tom Cat on the sunny side of the barn.
