Any body ever see or use a "jd26" flail mower? It's about 8ft wide with two wheels on the back end. Just picked one up today really cheap and the original owner tells me that the drive mechanism can be "flipped" to have either a rear or forward discharge. He says it's currently set up to discharge forward.

This doesn't look easy to do (if at all). Any ideas?? Thanks in advance,

Dan

John:

I agree! The iron alone has to be worth more than the $100 I paid for it.

Do you know if the discharge can be changed from front to rear? Which way does yours discharge?

Do you have the "s" shaped blades or something else?

Thanks,

Dan

Dan, I havent owned them in years, the ones I had discharged out the rear, they didnt look like they could be swapped??? Mine had the double knife flails with a blade out each side about 1 1/2 inch sort of??? Sorry, its been a while, but I rememeber they were great as stalk choppers and fast as they were like 10 ft wide. John T

Dan, some years ago I was always surprised how cheap I could buy those real wide crossways rotary flail type mowers at auctions. I used them a lot to chop up corn stalks in lieu of rotary bush hogging them and that worked. It seemed to me in hay they required a lot of horsepower to drive them plus they beat the livin *&^%$ out of the hay, especially if you had good alfalfa and didnt want to beat its leaves off. Anyway, that was my impression.
