I got a new sender from deere for the 620, guage still only moves about an 1/8 of a tank throughout the range, do I need a new guage now? the new sender apppears to have two wire lugs on it, one says S and one says -, any input out there guys? The guage will move the whole range unhooked from all wires and rotating it from side to side. thanks Mike

Hey Mike, Yep, Im afraid you also need a new gauge. When I bought a new sender for my 620, I had to add some series resistance (about 5 ohms) to make it work fairly accurate cuz the senders variable resistance value (from empty to full) didnt match the resistance required for proper gauge deflection. The thing is, the gauge and sender have to be a somewhat matched unit, cuz different gauges require different sending unit resistances and yours obviously isnt matching. Also, it doesnt sound to me like you can fix yours as easy as I did, because it sounds like you have too much resistance instead of too little. To get it to work, youre probably gonna have to buy a new gauge to match that new sender unit you installed, unless youre good with tinkering and have the time to use series parallell resistor circuits to make the sender match the gauge.

Good Luck, Ol John T Nordhoff

Mike, like I said in the other response, in most cases the new sender needs the later [replacement] dash gage to go with the new sender. The new & old parts work on a different base resistance.
~You can try some resistance between the sender & gage but the difference between the new & old is fairly big so I would be surprised if you hit both full & empty by just adding resistance.
~That [-] terminal is just for adding an extra ground wire from the sender base to the tractor frame.
