My early 4sp 420t has developed a squeek/chirp noise that seems to come from the center frame. This only happens when under load, clutch engaged, and only when the tractor has been used awhile.Pressure on the clutch pedal does not change it until the clutch disengages.Never does it in neutral. Also seems to have too much noise in 2nd.Anybody ran into this? I think trans bearings worn letting propshaft rub throwout bearing support;but wanted other input before I split it.Thanks!

Rick, I keep 2or 3 of those Dubuques in various stages of restoration at all times. As to the squeek, you are going to have to split it anyway to find out, but it sounds like something about the pressure plate. You don't say if it has live PTO, if so, it will have a more complicated pressure plate and dual clutch discs. I have seen the tube that the throw-out bearing slides on, come loose from the housing and come in contact with the PP fingers when depressing the clutch. Likely you will see the cause of the noise after going into it. Might just be a bad throw out bearing.
As to the gear noise in 2nd, that is common for the Dubuques, especially in whatever gear was used most during its life. Of course you could have some bad bearings in the trans. But usually this does not stop the gear noise. Those gears are straight cut and are almost 50 years old.
