I was at a recent Home Show , one of the booths had refurbished tractors for sale. He claimed that Yanmar had built all JD tractors ( small model) for sales in the US Market. I had a hard time beleiving that. It was a 80' svintage tractors any truth to that ?

IF I have a JD 330 lawn tractor with a Yanmar diesel, I understand I HAVE to go through a JD dealer as a Yanmar dealer cannot look up the engine by S/N Model ect. Are the internal engine parts like the Rings and gasket sets the same? I think if I knew they were the same I could match the internal parts with a good parts man as they are cheaper from a Yanmar dealer

can't speak for all the Yanmars but the John Deere 755 engine did not have sleeves. I don't think any of them do...but no absolutely sure.

I work for Deere (at the factory level) and here's the skinny. Deeer does NOT own Yanmar! Deere uses Yanmar engines in a number of products. The only tractor being built by Yanmar is the 790 Utility. Some of the older maodels were, however, the 430 & 455 garden tracotrs are not, 4000 series are not, 5000 series are not!

Dave:

I thought the 4000 series and up were assembled in Augusta, GA. They do use a Yanmar engine, though.

"Assembled" in Georgia. The parts come from Mexico, India, Japan, even China and elseware. Some bigger tractors come from Germany, with French made engines, and other parts from all over too. You'll look long and hard for a smaller tractor made in U.S.A. these days! Robert

Sorry Dave. I missed that you said "components in". Not sure if Yanmar made any other components for like the 855, but I know mine is sure all metric.

John Deere owns a good share of Yanmar.

850, 870, 950, 970, 1050, 1070, etc., John Deere tractors of that era were Yanmars in Deere's clothing, and there were likely others that don't come to mind at the moment.

We've had a 950 for quite a few years now and knock on wood, it's been a reliable worker.HJ

But they are built to JD specs... if you look at the Yammar tractors and then the JD's they are not the same tractors.. some of the components might be similar, but they are not the same... JDGnut

I agree Just look at them the JD's have heavier
parts. The Yanamar built JD's seem really tough I heard somewhere maybe Stephen Equip. that these
had JD's least amount of warranty claims. I own a 750 with over 2000 hours and only parts replaced
were a spring that holds the gear shift centered
and a fan belt.
