Jumping out of gear

My 720 is jumping out of fourth gear, just got through changing some gears in the trans for they had some teeth broken. It was not jumping before i changed gears, but now it does. Everything looked ok the shafts were not twisted and the replacement gears were fine. Do those detent balls hold it in gear. Maybe not going into the slots are out of adjustment. Is this looking in the right direction. Any help is appreciated, Ken.

Ken, depending on if it's jumping out of actual 4th gear or if the under/over drive is jumping out of engagement [is the shift lever moving out of the quadrant slot or is the lever staying put when it jumps out of gear], it could be anything from a detent lock to a gear alignment problem to loose bearings. ~Let us know if the shift lever is moving when it jumps out of gear & if it jumps out of 6th also.

Yes the shift lever is walking out back to neutral slot. Six gear will also come out but not as fast as fourth. You can watch the lever slowly move out while discing. What do i need to check first. Seems if you push the lever in gear fast kinda hard, it will stay in longer. Thanks Ken.

Ken, it sounds like the interlock is malfunctioning. That is that set of plungers that lock the shifter in position until the lever depresses the lock & allows the shifter to move. That is a complicated set up & is a little different by serial number. You really need a manual to set that interlock up to function correctly. Maybe you just have a mis-adjsuted shifter fork & the inetrlock isn't dropping into engagment.
~Pull the shift cover & try to move the 4th-6th shifter, if you can disengage 4th gear without unlocking the interlock you have probably found the problem...

Ken the detent balls do hold it in gear but you need to make sure the end play is not excessive on the shaft. we had this happen on a mod.b that was jumping out of high range.
