My 630 appears to be getting gas into the crank case, I suspect that the problem is the float and/or the needle & seat. Can these be replaced by just removing the carb bowl or is it necessary to remove the entire carb.

Mornin Greg, Before you move on to the needle and seat, you might want to take a look at that low oil pressure fuel shut off assembly above your sediment bowl. What that does is monitor the oil pressure via one of those tiny copper lines attached to it and if the oil pressure drops, a diaphragm turns off the fuel supply to the sediment bowl. To allow fuel to flow absent oil pressure (override), you have to turn the lil knurled nut on top and push down so the shut off (you can see it inside and at top center of sediment bowl) opens. The problem often is one of the thin rubber diaphragms springs a leak and this can cause gas to get in the oil as there is both gas and oil supply present in that area. Its not too bad to replace the diaphragms if they are leaking and I also replace the lil o ring on the up/down shut off valve. Im not sure about replacing the seat and needle without removing the carb, but up underneath in that position it sounds like a tough job to me???

Good Luck, God Bless the USA, please pray for and support the Troops. Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana

greg: I had this same problem last year on my 630. The problem is in the little valve that shuts off the gas when the tractor loses oil pressure. Depending on how you use your tractor it would work out better if you put a fuel shut off valve right below the tank. its not original but it works a heck of a lot better than the one that was on there originally. good luck,

Is a manual fuel shut off valve available from J.D. and if you place one between the tank & sediment bowl do you then remove the diaphragms & oil pressure line

Yes, you can replace the shut off sediment bowl assembly with a regular one, but the oil lines have to be re plumbed of course, but they are those tiny ones with bevel compression type fittigns and I often have trouble with them. Be careful removign the sediment bowl assembly from the tank and about any sort of shut off or in line fuel filter etc etc etc between the sediemnt bowl and carb could be used. Ol John T
