How can I identify what kind of Deere 2cyl. an injector is for just by visual inspection. For example, how could I differentiate an early 820 injector from a late 820/830 injector or an R injector from a 730 injector? Also, I was told that other things such as older detroits used the same style of injectors as did the Deeres. Are any of these larger than the 830 injectors? How can I identify these types? Thanks

I was under the impression that Albert at Renaissance Tractor 1-360-748-0026. Has the entire two cylinder diesel fuel system scienced out for max power. His equipment can supply more than enough fuel for any 720/730 and even a 80/820/830/840.

Hey Smoker,
Glad to see your still kickin! There is no difference in the early to late 820-830 injectors, all the same. All the diesel injector bodies are the same, no matter what model. Now there are some build differences in the bosch and bendix parts that are not interchangeable. The main differences are the tips which are replaceable, just have to order bendix ones for bendix nozzles and bosch for the bosch. An R tip will have 4 holes, the 730-820-830 tips will have 6 holes, the 70 will have 5 holes. The 720-730 tips have 6 holes of .010 dia, the 820-830 tips have 6 holes of .012 dia and the R has 4 holes of .014 dia, the 70 5 holes of .011 dia. The tricky part is that the delivery valves in some 820-830 injectors have 3 passages, while others only have 2, with the same part numbers on the valves. I have been reworking injectors and lines over the past month, and have 3-4 spreadsheets made upover what I have done with diameter of areas and getting well over 100% numbers on sizes I have redone on standard fuel systems. Lots of machiine time in the shop and late nights I am anxious to see what happens. I have gathered several parts off an on and had some trial runs and improvements to my liking and lots of smoke! Ive been working on this for over a year and feel like a mad scientist at times. Hope this helps, as far as the detroit injectors, none can be really found that have the same pattern and design to fit the deeres. Never could get a good lead or info on the detroit system. Hope you are getting the R going, hope to hear from you,

Gpower

Smoker, after I hit post I realized I goofed, the 80-early 820 had 5 hole .010 tips, the late 820-830-840 had the 6 hole .012 tips. Also if you happen to have the tips there will be numbers on the edge of top lip of the tips that are codes to verify what tip is what. I have all that info if you need it. Also the late 820s started with the black dash and differnt heads that are the same as the 830. Gpower

So what you are saying is that the 3 passage delivery valves shoot more fuel?? Thanks for the quick response Garry. The R is still in pieces. I got married in December and that has taken up my tractor time. Maybe one day it fire again.

Yes the 3 hole valves allow more fuel, the problem is the hole in the bottom of the valve does not equal the same area as the 3 holes allow. It is smaller. Thats most of the problem is getting all the passage ways and area" to equal. Lots of math and time. It is fun though, just frustrating at times. Congratulations on the Marriage, Hope all is going well. good Luck on the R,
Gpower
