Any 4400 Compact Recalls?

I have a JD 4400 compact which I purchased in June 2001. I use it for relatively light work as I am a "weekend farmer" and have a larger tractor also. A friend told me he had heard that there were some factory problems with the 4400. Anyone out there hear anything about that. My warranty is up in a couple of months and I'd like to check if that is the case. Thanx

If it is a hydro there is a potential problem of battery corrosion causing a leak in the hydraulic oil cooler. The fix is a new battery and oil cooler. I don't think this was under a PIP, but was repaired as a Fix as Fail warranty. Check with your dealer. Hope this helps.

I also have a 4400. To my knowledge there was a front end design problem. I got a replacement unit from Deere. They had designed the tractor with dual hydraulic cylinder and the front end caused serious scuffing. The new design has the one unit. I've also heard of some clouding of the instrument panel...nothing else to my knowledge.

Larry, if there are any PIPs that pertain to your tractor, you should receive notification from Deere. If you don't and still have doubts, contact your dealer and have them check. A lot of PIPs are related to serial number breaks, but they should have all that info. By all means get it in and get any problems you have fixed while it's still in warrant, even if they seem minor. If we have a customer's tractor in the shop, and the warranty is close to expiring, we give it a good look for any obvious problems and fix them before it expires.
