We had our 2 Cyl. Club Plow Day today and one of the guys showed up with his newly aquired and very nice looking B. A couple of questions came up that we could not get answers for.(the tractor is electric start, Stamped steel side plates. It has only a single fuel tank ,not dual fuel)
1. The tractor has operating shutters. Is this normal for a gasoline only tractor?
2. The hydraulic system ,although it has two outlets only has pressure one way. Is this normal or do we need to find what ails it? (the screw is turned in to isolate the rockshaft)
Thanks for the input,
Andy

Andy, the remote outlets should allow pressure in both directions. How are you plumbing for your remotes? You will need to either use 2 closed front hose fittings in the power-trol outlets, or if you are plumbing out the side use 2 selector valves [one in the top & one in the bottom] P/T outlets. You said "(the screw is turned in to isolate the rockshaft)" Is that the screw in the selector valve? If so that sounds like you only have one selector installed. ~The shutters are covered below...

Yes to both questions, All Model B's came with shutters, and the hydraulic system is one way with the cylinder. In other words the things used on this tractor were fall down lift up. i.e. plows, mowers, loaders. Russ

jdman:

Only the rockshaft was gravity down. When used with a remote 2 way cylinder (two hoses), it was pressure both ways. For example, you could lift the wheel carriage of a pull-type disk right up into the air. You could also plumb your loader for down pressure if the loader was capable of it. I have a 45W with a hydraulic bucket that does just that. Now, it won't lift the front end off the ground, but it takes the weight off those wheels.

I agree that shutters were available, and when you were plowing into a stiff winter wind, sometimes you'd have to close them a bit going one way, and open back up going the other direction, just to keep a good temp up in the heathouser !

I stand corrected, I know we only used a cylinder with one hose for plows, and mowers, and used a drag disk.Russ
