I ran upon a H model Tractor the other day. Or I thought it was an H as it was the same size anyway, and it had diesel in it and it was hand crank. There was nobody around to talk with as it was on Sunday and I had never seen an H with diesel in it before. It had diesel decals on it and it had a cold starting decal by the flywheel crank and it had a styled front end on it and so I'm guessing that it was made after 1939. Just courious and would like some imput from you Green tractor experts. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Found out that it was an all fuel tractor, and that someone had just put decals on it. The decals were faded in color like that tractor and not knowing everything there is know about these Green machines, that's why I ask on this board.

As others mentioned there was no John Deere H diesel. However, there were all-fuel H tractors that could run on diesel using spark ignition. So, I could see someone putting a diesel sticker on their larger (kerosene)tank.

Dan, I presume you are talking about an "H" John Deere? If so there never was a diesel version. Even if there was a diesel version you would never be able to hand start it due to the high compression needed for a diesel to operate.
~Sure sounds like someone just installed those decals...

The first Diesel Deere was the "R" in 1949, and this was a much larger tractor than the "H", which was the smallest full sized (non-L/LA) Deere of its time. No way it was a production Diesel. Someone might have been trying to be cute and make the "H" up like it was a Diesel, or maybe they put one in aftermarket. Did you see if it had Diesel injeciton equipment, or at least no carburetor and spark plugs?. just my $0.02.
