I have a 2040, when I pull my box blade the lift wants to raise all by it self, so i have to hold down on the lever to get the blade to stay at the height I want, my lift control handle is broken off at the end, I know there is supposed to be a friction disk on the quadrant, I was wondering if that friction disk is what holds the lift in position without it raising,

Blake:

Is it possible that you have the load and draft control set to a very light "load" position, and the arms are raising in order to keep the load constant on the tractor ? It could be that simple.

If you have a manual it should be covered in there pretty well.

Did the problem occur all of a sudden ?

the friction mechanism prevent the LEVER from moving to raise position by itself. if the lever is stationary and yet the arms raise then the problem is in the valve assembly.

Valve problem? Better check the setting of the load and depth control FIRST. Probably it is set in the load position which WILL make the 3-pt raise when pulling a load. Set it to depth position and it will stay where you put it.
This is a little short lever, not the long lever you use to raise and lower the 3-pt. I don't recall if that little lever has 3, 4, or 5 positions. Your operators manual will tell you all about the settings for it.
