My 2 cents worth. All the new pickups have there pros and cons. Apperance, drivetrains, interior gadgets I think they are all real nice pickups. I have never owned a pickup newer than a 1972 Iam in my mid 40s. I do have 3 1972 chevys. One 3/4 ton for towing, heavy 1/2ton Super Cheynne 4x4 that dont get drove much to nice and one 1/2 ton 4x4 I use everyday on the farm. The biggest reason for this is they were built fairly stout.Cast iron gear driven transfer cases they even have air conditiong. When they do break down there fairly simple to fix parts are cheap and I dont have to pay somebody $50 a hour to do it. Maybe someday Ill get a new one.

I think the new chevy is ugly. The upturned lights look like a cat or something and the length from the bumper to front wheel is too long. It just looks weak. The new Dodge looks funky too.
My boss has a 2001 PowerStroke with the automatic transmission. Don't get the AT, he's replaced it twice already. The motor is still strong, but the manual transmission is way better at handling the torque

I haven't paid much attention to the styling of Ford or GM. I've been a Dodge man for a long time. I like the looks of my '94 better than the newer ones. Some folks question my judgement though. I still think the '60s Dodge pickups look cool. Wish I still had my '67 short stepside.

Traded the fully loaded 1500HD SLE 4x4 four door crew cab 2002 for the same in a 2003 last Dec. And likely will trade the old 2003 for a new six seater 2003 in June. Didn't notice the DVD option reduces seating to 5 bodies until too late. Told the Dealer the Quad Steer price will have to drop to less than 1/4 it's current outlandish cost before even considering it. Just plays with the trailer, lots of interior room, enough power not to feel gutless, enough toys for a comfortable ride & decent milage considering. Trade trucks every six to nine months and sell to the US market. Cheapest vehicle per mile I've ever had all considered. Big, heavy and safe for the wife and kids too. If I was keeping a vehicle for years or doing lots of heavy trailer towing and sneaking farm fuel into it, than the diesel would be considered. Otherwise diesel is just a status symbol that costs more per mile. A factory natual gas truck is the cheapest per mile if keeping it long term.

I have seen a number of discussions on the internet about diesel vs. gas costs and at today's fuel prices the breakeven point for Diesel is about 80,000 miles. If you tow quite often (and I do) the break-even milestone goes down due to the superior mileage you get when towing.

So yes if you're going to trade every year or two the gas motor is a better choice. I also agree that natural gas is a great choice if it meets your power/towing needs.

I like the 3/4 and 1 tons ok but the half tons look awkward in the front and I have seen plenty of them.I have driven STOCK(no chips, exaust,or reprogrammed computors)diesels, and the Cummins is a sweet machine and has low end torque out the wazoo and the Duramax is sweet and a great driver with lots of power but the one that really impressed me was the 03 Power Stroke.I had to drive a new one 340 miles back to my job and at first it was sluggish but when I got about 100 miles on it it was a different machine. That thing pulled HARD all the way from 0 to 90 mph no problem.I would have loved to hook it up to a big goosneck loaded.Just hope it holds up.

My dad just bought a 03 Crewcab with the max/allison combo. Nice truck, and I love the transmission. Not as much room inside as my 00 powerstroke crewcab, and personally, for a truck, I think there are way too many bells and whistles for me. Too much to repair later. We'll see if it holds up to my powerstroke's standards in the next couple of years. Stroker has 132K on it, with NO repairs. I promise, I have run the breath out of it, and it has never backed up.

I thought the new style would grow on me ,,, but it did not. I just bought an 01 3500 with 8.1 /allison. But to be honest the new Dodge style I think is a step backwards as well

Well, I guess I'll cast the dissenting vote. I like the new 2003 look. The 99-02 look was not much of a change from the 88-98 and GM was criticized for not trying something new.

I didn't like the new look at first but it grew on me - so much that I traded in my 98 x-cab last week for an 03 Crewcab 2500HD with the DMAX/Allison.

(I would comment though that the headlight assembly looks better on the 2500/3500 trucks. It is out of proportion on the 1500 series, seems a little top-heavy or something.)

I have done a lot of research on the powertrain and I am very comfortable with an engine/trans combo now entering it's third year of production.

I'll let y'all know in a year how it's running and if I still like it..... ...

I worry less about the looks and more about its durability. Cant see the styling when you in it working. Two of my neighbors are not happy with their powerstrokes. They would rather see a DT-466 (IH navistar diesel) as an option.I`m gonna wait and see how the GM duramax/isuzu holds up afore I buy one. So are my neighbors.

The cummins HO has impressed me the most and is certainly the most durable engine out there. It is the only true medium duty engine of the three. i guess thats why FORD offers it on their medium duty trucks. John deere has also used cummins in their tractors. By the way, the DODGE and new Ford F-150 look way better than the Chevy in my opinion.

I would be interested to know what JD tractors use Cummins engine. I thought JD used only their own.

The cummins N14 was used in the largest of the JD 4WDs (8970, 8960) until about 1996 when the 9000 series came out. Deere then went to its own 12.5L engines as the largest. The only Cummins left in Deere's ag lineup is in their largest forage harvester. It is a 15 liter if I remember correctly.

I BELIEVE THERE WAS A REPORT BY PETERSENS THAT SAID FORD WILL DOMINATE SALES WITH THIS TRUCK . I WILL BE GETTING MY ORDER OUT AS SOON AS THEY ARE TAKING THEM. P.S. Ugly. I don't see that many on the road, I wonder if GM buyers are opting for the 2003 GMC since it has the more conservative styling.

As long as you stick to Fords you'll be fine. But I'll have to agree with the others the new Chevys and Dodges I think are kind of ugly.

They have what I referr to the current styling trend as the slanted eye look. Personally, I have a feeling that that stling may just be a flash in the pan.

I just can't wait for the super cab fords to retool to meet the current trend :) .
