I recently purchased a 4230 gas model and was wondering if anyone has any info on that model. I understand not many were built. I am thinking about converting it to a diesel, but since it is rare am wondering if that is a good idea.

Since only 30-odd 4230's were built with gasoline engines. If you want a 4230 diesel, sell your 4230 to a collector, and go buy a diesel model, don't booger this one up by converting it to diesel, which will harder to do and cost a lot more than you think it will.

I heard about 30some were built. I have a 4430 engine with low hours and I bought this 423o after not being able to find a decent 4010 to put the engine in. After I got the 4230 I started reading a little about how rare it was. I am now wondering where I would find someone interested in it. It is in such good shape which is why I bought it, but even if I make a profit on it, I will probably not make up the difference in the cost of a diesel in as good as shape as this one. so, that's my dilema.

You have a real rarity and it would be a sin for you to ruin it by putting another engine in it. The right kind of collector would give you enough for it, so that you could buy a pretty good later model used tractor of similar size.
