Hi guys,
I was just wondering if any of you had any experience in splicing grilles. I purchased another (used of course) left grille for my '42 H. Problem is, the top of my original is in real good shape but the bottom is beat up. The bottom on the one I just purchased is better, but the top isn't as good as my original. Can they be cut and spliced if I find someone who is good with sheet metal? What is used, solder? As you can tell, I've not much experience with these things as this is my first restoration. Thanks for any and all advice.
Doc

Hey Doc,
I'm not going to say that it can't be done but I would think splicing the sheet metal would be rather difficult to do and make it still look good, not impossible but difficult. I just got done doing a splice type deal on my grills on my 41 H that I'm restoring but I only spliced the screens. Won the grill screen donor on ebay for about $17.00 and cut the screen out and pop rivited the repair pieces to the originals. I only had one slot in each grill that was messed up thank goodness. Sure beat replacing the grills or screens completly. I did use some bondo on mine getting them to look as good as possible as this is my first total restoration. They turned out pretty good. No complaints here!!

Hey, Gary. Do you still have the sheetmetal that you took the screen out of? I bought new screen for mine, and a co-worker was going to straighten the metal. He skipped town and no one knows what happened to my parts.

Hey Frank,
Yep, still got the grill sheet metal. Drop me a email and we can talk about it if your interested. I can get a digital pic of it as well. Will do that tommorrow. It needs some work but could be straightened out with a little work.
Thanks,
Gary

A good body shop should fix you right up. Or if you have a Mig welder and a sawzall... Hope this helps
