I bid on a rocker arms assembly on eBay. The seller said he thought it was from a B, but he e-mailed me a part number 81711r, which I think might have been the B1711R on the 50's broken rocker arms assembly.

So, I guess that's one more step toward getting the 50 going.

David,

I've watched with interest as you've progressed - I'm assuming that you must really be making progress - you've gone from "50 Shaped Piece of Rust" to just plain "50".

Keep up the good work!

Stan

Well, actually,

A: I found out the transmission isn't rusted fast. At least, when the water in the transmission isn't frozen, the shifting lever is moveable.

B: While the exhaust pipe and manifold are extremely rusty, it can't exactly be described as a single piece of rust as the block is out, the head and pistons are loose on top of the frame, and the rocker arms assembly is in the house.

C: If i remember correctly, someone commented that it would be more accurate to call it a rust-coloured tractor-shaped piece of iron, or a rust-shaped piece of a 50.

Somehow I don't expect to find like-new piston rings and rod bearings on eBayJ

Email me I have an exellent set of used standard size pistons and a new set of rings that I will let go cheep. (I bought the rings before teardown)I found a pair of high altitude pistons and rings to put in it. I ended up boring mine .045 over.

Rust just gives it character. Kinda like grey hairs in a man's beard. From the pictures I've seen, your 50 has a LOT of character. Doesn't matter. What does matter is that it's YOUR 50. Its your rebuild job. When it runs again (and it will) it will be because you fixed it. Your hands. Your sweat. Your time. Your hopes and dreams. It will eventually run strong and true and you will know (even if nobody else does) that it's a reflection of yourself. Thats what matters.

When shes runnin again I hope you have as much fun with it as I've had with my 50.

Best of luck and keep us up to date on your progress.

John
