While plowing with my 2950 it unpredictably and intermittantly steers to the left or right by itself. At about the same time the steering started doing it's thing, the hydraulic hoses for the Disc started jumping as if it was out of oil when I picked up at the end of the row. Lifting the disc was jerky and slow. After I shut it down for a few minutes, everything went back to normal. Then about 20 minutes later it all happened again. This time the hydraulic pump up front sounded like it was cavitating slightly. Oil is full and clear. The filters were changed in December 2002. only 20 hours ago. Unit has 4300 hours.

You said that you changed the filters but did you clean the suction screen??

Chris,

The screen is apparently what I may have overlooked. Please tell me where it is? Is there more than one? Also, Can I clean it or do I need to replace it?

From what you said, it sounds like your steering valve is going bad and by-passing oil. This would explain the erratic steering and the chattering in the lift functions. When the tractor is cold start it up and run it at 1500 rpm for 10 minutes, and feel the steering valve. If it is very warm or hot to the touch, the valve is bypassing oil internally. If this is the case the valve will have to be removed and repaired/resealed.

"The Knee bone is connected to the Shoulder bone"
(Don't ask how the steering problem traced back to the brakes!) HaHa

Found what I think is the problem. I cleaned the screen and found a lot of shredded material that looks like the brake pad linings.

(Changed the Screen, Filter, & Oil)

The brakes still work and hold fine. Steering problem appears to be gone too.

Is there an easy way to inspect the brake pads and see if the material I found is from the existing pads? Could the material be from an earlier set of pads that went bad?

Question? Could the material be from something other than the brake pads?

Another day of Farming!

Thanks! Will try this and see if this corrects the problem. Just want to say this is a great way to get helpful information. When I went to the dealer all he wanted was me to bring it in! That spells $$$ to me not HELP!
