I have a Farm Special license on my truck and want to haul a tractor about 200 miles in to Minnesota. Will I be legal in Minnesota with that license? Also can you go thru Minneapolis on 35W with a semi with about 25,000 gross weight? Thanks for any help, Jason

There used to be weigh scales on I-35 about 20 miles south of Minneapolis (near Burnsville, MN). These scales are no longer open, so you should not have to worry about those.

Federal law requires a DOT number for any vehicle (or combination such as pickup and trailer) over 10,000 GVW...I think mobile homes with(or without boats/cars) are exempt.

However, have found it rare for a cop to pull over an out of state pickup trailer combo even though it was obviously over 10,000 GVW.

If you are driving a semi, don't go up 35...they'll get you at the scales if you are not current on DOT (number, inspection sticker, log books, etc)...MN scales have bad rep. for treatment of truckers....supposedly the scale on i35 is training ground...they get real nit picky.

I see semis on 35W every time I go there. I would avoid rush hour, which in the afternoon lasts from 3 - 6 and is worse on Fridays in the summer. I'm not sure about morning rush hour. Any place that goes from 3 to 2lanes is a special wart.

I though we'd go up on a early Sunday morning, try and hit the twin cities about 7-8 o'clock. Thanks for the info. Jason
