JD 3010

I am looking at a mid 80s JD 3010. THis tractor was made in Mannhiem Germany and the price is definately right.

It has a problem with the 3-point. I am told that it will raise ok, but won't go down normally. It takes overnight to drop down.

What would my liability be, or in other words, how expensive could it be to repair something like that?

Secondly, is there an issue with JD tractors regarding their intended market? If this tractor was made in Germany for the European market, would its' parts be interchangeable with US JD 3010s? Is there an interchangeability issue like there is with Ford Dextas and 2/3000s? Same tractors, but parts don't interchange.

This tractor is an 81hp machine with good sheet metal, good transmission, clutch and the engine starts and runs smooth with no smoke. The oil does not have any milky streaks. The only problem is the 3-point. If I can get this tractor for $6000 as is, would that be a good deal?

I appreciate your observations and comments.

Look on the lift cover just in front of the seat, there should be a bolt with a small flat lever on it sticking up. This is the flow control on "Mannhiem" tractors. Turn the lever counterclockwise, this should take care of the problem. The position of this lever makes it easy to kick or bump and completely close it, and most folks don't know what it is. I called it a flow control, more accurately it controls the rate of drop for heavier 3pt equipment. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tip on the flow control. I am going to try it. What do you think about the 3130s or the european versions in general? Do the parts interchange with 2840s?

Do you perhaps mean a 3140? Mannheimwerke built them, and 80hp or so would tend to indicate that you have the euro version of the 2840 which was sold in the US.

For a certainty, you do NOT have a 3010!

To: JD70Jim.

You are correct. I called the used equipment dealer where I first saw the tractor. It is a JD 3130. He says that his manual states that it is the same thing as a 2840 and the parts are interchangeable. Is that right?

On the other question: What do you think the worstcase cost might be to repair the 3-point?

Well, I think the post with the info regarding the "flow control" should be tried first.

Rebuilding the rockshaft cylinder, which is what operates the 3ph, might cost $500-1000, if that is indeed the problem.

What will you be wanting to use this 2840 clone for? They have been called "unsuitable" for use with a loader. I don't know precisely why either.

I won't be using it with a loader. Just general duties pulling discs, harrows, shredding. The dealer dropped the price to $7000. It will be a week or so before I can get over there, but I think I will go for it if it is still for sale.

A 3010 JD made in the 80's????

In US JD made 3010 from '61 to '63 and were only 59hp for diesel (gas and lp had less hp). It is possible to get more out of 3010...go to 3020 sleeves and pistons, turn up pump, turbo charge, etc. 81 hp seems high...mayhaps this is a different "animal" altogether than the JD 3010 that most of us in US know...Do you have a picture?
