BW, Frank gave you good info on those hydraulic lines. The rear unit is very top heavy & is hard to handle if not careful. ~The best way I have found to get the rear unit off is to wrap a chain around the rockshafts & then run a 3rd chain down to the top link attaching pin. Once the unit is held up with a chain fall or other lifting device the tractor can just be rolled forward & away from the rear unit. Make sure you drain the trans & PTO clutch before pulling it apart. The red arrow on the picture points to the seal that needs replacing. I have a few pictures of the PTO & rear housing in different stages of disassembly so if you need to look at anything let me know.....

BW:

Getting the Pow-R-Trol lines out can be the most vexing. I used just a bit of heat from a propane torch and that did the trick. If they are like the ones on the '70', they are no longer available from JD, so you don't want to damage them.

The assembly is very heavy, so if you have any extra hands and an engine hoist, it will help. I also removed the battery box to prevent damaging that.

I made up some headless pins from threaded rod that I used to guide the assembly back on to the tractor. I don't know if that is approppriate for your -30 series or not.

I used some tape over the shaft splines to protect the new seal from being cut.

That's about it. Nothing complicated, just bulky.
