I'm restoring a '50A with cast-in babbit bearings and am wondering when a person can tell that it's
time to rebabbit. Both rod bearings have a little
flaking but not much and I've searched past posts but haven't come up with the answer. Is the answer in thousandths or the eye of the beholder?
This will be a hobby tractor which might make a difference. Thanks in advance, Daniel

I'd say it was an eyeball kind of thing. I'd seriously consider rebabitting if %50 were flaked off but not before then. Just Plasti-guage it and set the high points to .003 inches clearance and keep running it otherwise.
