I have a 51 "B" with a very tight engine. If I turned up the oil pump pressure I could probably hit 30 or 35 psi. Now I know the manual says normal oil press is between 10 and 15 psi at fast idle. Why did Deere want to run the pressure so low? Can you hurt the engine running it too high?
What exactly is fast idle?, 1/2 open throttle or full throttle no load?

I do work the tractor but not all that hard. Usually I drag a heavy box blade with it, or cut a little grass.

Texasdeere, yes there is such a thing as too high an oil pressure, especially with soft babbit bearings. The problem with too much oil pressure is it could etch the soft bearing material [kind of like a hose sprayer pointed onto your grass]. Too much oil pressure also promotes oil leaks & puts a strain on the oil pump. The rule of thumb for most gas engines [excluding race engines & special applications] is 10 psi per 1000 RPMs. Your 30-35 is a bit on the high side for continuous use but acceptable for limited use. The oil pressure should be read after a good workout that gets the oil hot & at wide open throttle.
~Fast idle is no-load wide open throttle in neutral [hot]

Thanks again Mr. C,

I just verified my gauge calibration,(aftermarket white face gauges) and it looks like I had it set at 15psi hot already.
