G input shaft

The input shaft that the first reduction gear goes on, short shaft, has spun on the bearing and wore a groove in the shaft. If i have it built up and turned back to specs, will the heat weakin the shaft and cause to break, or is this ok to do. Anyone done this, any info is appreciated, thanks Ken. This is on a 52 G.

Ken, yes it could. It depends on how deep the weld penetration is & how hot the shaft gets. Done correctly it can be repaired with little damage & future failure. I prefer spray weld then re-machine but that can get rather expensive..... ..

i believe it can be repaired by reputable sorces however it might be faster and cost effective to buy a replace ment shart new used or old stock sometimes these parts are available used as they dont sell everyday

Thanks for the replys, i think i will try and see what happens. The bearing had went out, no rollers left in it, the groove wore on one side, deep on one side and smooth on the other, don't know how that could have happened. Thanks again, Ken.
