Thanks to all for the great help in getting my 3010 charging and running right again. It had very little power and would hardly pull my 6 foot brush-hog. The generator and voltage regulator were shot and I had to continually recharge the battery. I installed a rebuilt alternator from the auto parts store. I put in the resistor and diode (in series) that you guys told me about. The lights had a short in them and the switch had taken a hit. I put in new toggle switches and rewired the lights. Many of the wires on my tractor had cracks and a few were broken. I replaced most of the wires with new. I put in a new coil, voltmeter, and bought an electronic ignition kit. While I was at it I put in new plugs-Champion. I put on a curved stack instead of the muffler. Everything went fine with the project except I got no spark when I fired it up the first time. Seems I hadn't seated the rotor down far enough and it was destroyed inside the cap. A new rotor and cap cured the problem. It fires up right away. I test drove it up some steep grades and it seems to have all the power I'll ever need.
I couldn't have done it without you guys on my side. Your willingness to share your knowledge with me humbles me. I feel such a huge sense of pride and accomplishment..when that thing turned over and fired up I was on cloud nine. Kinda like you guys must feel every time you help a newbie like me.
I am in your debt..Thank-you my friends
Michael
