API Lube Oil Spec for a Diesel

What do oils that meet API Spec SF, CD have that API Spec SG,SH,SJ,SL lube oils do not. Would SG, SH, SJ, SH Spec oils be acceptable to use in a diesel engine?

Frank, the [C] in CD, CE, CF, CG, CH-4 etc. means it's for compression ignition engines & is much better at handling sulfur in the fuel & has more phosphorus compounds & other severe wear additives for high compression diesel use.
~The [S] in SG, SH, SJ, SH & other S type oils means it's for spark ignition engines & in most cases is designed for emission control protection, protection against combustion chamber deposit build up, & enhanced for higher fuel economy & cold weather flowability. Most of the S series oils are not good at handling sulfur in the fuel & some of the high anti-wear additives are removed, modified, or cut back so catalytic converter damage is cut to a minimum.
~You really should stick to a [C] rated oil for diesel use....
