I have a 39 b with the standard pistons in it. The bores are very clean with little to no wear. The tractor doesnt smoke any. Now I was thinking of adding some aftermarket pistons and milling the head a bit. My question is if i do this am i still going to be able to start this cause its a hand start. I use this tractor almost daily and i would like to squeeze a few more ponies out. But if its gonna be trouble i will just use it the way it is. Thanks Chris

Chris, your cylinders may not show much wear but if your were to test them with a bore gauge or a snap gauge and a mic, you'd probably see some wear. If you add new pistons w/out the proper machine work, you may have problems with smoke, oil consumption and loss of compression. I wouldn't change pistons until you plan to have a shop resize the cylinders to fit the new pistons. This will assure a good piston to cylinder fit and a smooth running tractor. Good luck and God Bless, Preacher John
