My 630 NF has power steering fluid showing up around the spindle extension. What repairs are required and how tough are they to accomplish? Thank you for your help!

OkieBill:

As Clooney mentioned, it is a fairly big job labor-wise, but the parts are very reasonable. While you've got the pedestal assembly apart, you'll probably want to replace other wear parts as well like the steering vane seals. Also, check the steering gear for excessive wear. It might need to be rotated 180 degrees in order to obtain "new" wear surface since they inherently wear on one side. A service manual is a must as well, either the I&T or the Deere manual SM-2050. I hope this helps you get started.

Bill, you have leaking "O" rings at the bottom of the Power steering vane area in the bolster. The bolster has to come apart & the steering vane section disassembled to replace the "O" rings. It's a fairly big job & takes some know-how of how the power steering comes apart. You really need a manual to see what's involved for the repair. If you're fairly handy with tools it isn't too difficult of a job to do yourself. The best thing to do is get a repair manual [or even an I & T manual], then study the repair procedure, then post back here for details on what you don't understand. We can clarify any points of the repair you don't understand. If I posted the repair procedure here most of it would be Greek to you, the repair manuals have good pictures of the parts & procedures involved .....
