Clean the block good, soap up the O rings, the new
sleeves will push in to about the last inch or
so,tap in with a block of wood. The book says to
grind the sharp edge off just above where the O
rings set.I put a chanfer on mine with a small
dye grinder. Why are you replacing just Two?

Thanks Ray for your help, I bought this engine from a dealer and it was sold to me as a fresh rebuilt engine about 4 years ago. I put about 300 hrs. on it and started to get an extrem amount of blow by. When I opened it up, I found two cyl. with broken rings and the sleaves were scared deep. The other two look fine. So plan was to replace 1 piston that was broke around the skirt and 2 sleaves and all of the rings and rod bearings. Only used this tractor to rake and mow hay and plant corn and some bush hoggin, so it's been used in light duty. the oil had been changed only 4 times since I put it in,so I don't know why this happened, but thats the way it goes sometimes--mike

I did one last winter that sounds like the same
tractor.I found that a thermostat was bad,(it has
2).The spring in the thermostat broke and it was ran hot.I would still recommend installing new
sleeves and pistons, think it cost me $500.I've
seen used pistons break with the extra pressure
of new rings. You might get by,I hope you do,but
I'm not that lucky.A short cut usually ends up
cosing me more than doing it right the first
time.
