730 Diesel Crankshaft

I'am currently replacing the damaged crankshaft and flywheel on my 730 ES Diesel. The original crankshaft has the casting number F3560R and the counter weight has the casting number F1911R. My problem is that when I installed the new crank which has the casting number F3561R, the counter weight which I took off the old crank, hits the piston skirt as it comes around and will not let the crank make a complete revolution. I do not have the counter weight that came with the F3561R crank and was wondering if anyone knows if this crank takes a different counter weight to clear the piston.

I'm just doing parts book scrounging here, but I'll try to help you, since nobody else has. Up to serial number 7214899 (720 and 730 are in the same parts book on Deere EPC), they show a crank part number of AF2391R, which is crankshaft F1910R, with a counterweight. There is no separate number for the counterweight, but the closeness of the crank number to your counterweight number leads me to believe that you had a 720 crank in your 730. After the serial number I listed, the crank subs (even for the earlier 720) up to part number AF3748R, which is also listed with a counterweight. My theory is that there are some differences (obviously if it's hitting), and that you need to find a counterweight out of a late 720 (black dash) or a 730. Apparently at some point in time, your 730 ate the crank and they installed an early 720 crank in it's place. I hope this helps you out some.

Thanks for the reply Gman. I've done some more research on my dilema. Both cranks involved here are 730 cranks. Through discusions with some people I found out that the factory had made changes to the crank becuase of problems with the counter weights either coming off or apart or something along those lines. I've been told everything from all the counter weights are the same to there were different counter weights depending on what crank was used. At this point I still don't have a definitive answer as to the problem with the counter weight other than it definitely can't be the right one.
