I have a 1966 4020 Diesel. The head gasket leaks on the on the injector side of the motor especially near the rear of the motor. I know this is fairly common on these tractors, especially when they are putting out around 120 horses like mine is. What sould i do to stop this? is there any way to slow the leak without replacing the gasket? If not, than are there any special procedures used to replace the gasket that will prevent it from leaking in the future? I have the repair manual, but I want to be as sure as possible that this repair will last as long as possible.

Saathoff is right. Make sure the head is good and flat and that the liner protrusion is up to spec. Install a new headgasket and secure it with new bolts, and you'll probably be fine.

this is common on some of the 4020's that is where the oil comes up to the head and it has to do with how the bolts were positioned in the head when deere designed that head, the way i would do it is to replace it. deere has came out with new torqing procudures to help this problem your local dealership can probualy give you the sequence
