I have found a 1020 diesel that appears to be in good shape and would like to buy it - except that it sits too high up (i.e. it is an HU). My questions are: a) is it even possible to change it so that it sits lower down and b) approx. how expensive would it be to do this?

I would love to have an HU 1020. Never even seen one. But in answer to your question. My 1020 manual shows 5 inches difference in height between an HU and RU tractor. All changed by tire size. Anywhere from 24" to 36" inch rear rims and various tire sizes. Most important are different part numbers between theHU and RU in my parts catalogue for differential gears.(Drivers and pinions) Which would be rather expensive<(my opinion). Some drive gearing interchanges between RU and HU machines depending on tire/rim size and axle type.(rack and pinion, steel disc etc.)This only means that you will have to spend some time in a parts manual deciphering what will be correct and what wont in the gearing department. E-mail me RE: 1020HU if you decide your not interested in the HU as I wouldnt mind haveing a chance at purchasing it. I have a 1020 RU presently and wouldnt mind a HU for vegatable row crop work.
