the flywheel should wear before the splines. If you've tightened several time, I would try and other flywheel with new John Deere bolts. The wheel should tighten with little torque if proper, however you want to be sure to set to the factory torque. If splines are badly worn on crank then you may need to try to build up or just replace.

Chuck:

If it's worn that bad, he might be able to salvage it by installing a Tap-R-Loc flywheel kit. I have not used one, but those who have tell me that they realy do hold tight !

Check and see if the bolts are streched or not---sounds like they are streching----causing the flywheel to loosen up--.There was a posting a while ago that showed what stretched flywheel bolts look like, not sure if Clooney sent it or not? If bolts are ok---look at the splines on both the crank, and flywheel, make sure they aren't worn, My guess? stretched bolts,it doesn't take much streching to make the flywheel loose.----- ----- --good luck----- --Jim.

In Need of help:

Are the flywheel splines clean and in good condition ? Same for the flyhweel splines.

Losening can come from bolts not torqued to spec, or the old bolts have stretched, and continue to stretch after you tighten them up. I have found that excess flywheel endplay can also affect the ability to keep the flywheel tight.

Start with clean splines on both the crankshaft and the flywheel, get the endplay set correctly, and use new Grade bolts ( I like fine thread along with tall nuts and hardened washers under the nuts.).

If the splines are in good shape, and clean and bright with no burrs, you should be able to get the flywheel tight and keep it tight.
