I was looking at ROBERTS CARBURETOR web site and I notice that the carburetor for my 46 A is supposed to be DLTX-53 and the carb on my tractor is DLTX-72, will this make a difference on how my tractor will run? Also he shows the magneto is supposed to be a Wico "C" and my tractor has a Wico "X", will this also effect the way it will run? My new A is a 46-ser# 568000. Thanks for any info ya'all can provide !! morgan

I had just bought this tractor and hauled it home and was doing catch-up maintenance and I noticed this. Thanks alot, you sure eased my mind. By the way, what does single induction mean?

Morgan, single induction just means a single barrel carburetor. The later Deere 2-cyl tractors used a 2 barrel [duplex] carb...

Morgan, your 46 is supposed to have a 53, the 72 will work as it's for a later "A". I doubt you will notice much difference on a stock "A" but the 72 could give you a little more power on gasoline. The 53 would be better if your are going to use kerosene..
~The Wico X [XH] is a Deere service replacement for the Wico C. Again I doubt you will notice any difference in performance. Both the C & X are a good mag. I have no problem with the C on any of my tractors that are using them but some people like the X better. The later X does have a better magnetic rotor in it.

Yo Clooney, Im like you, Ive seen many carb swaps, which as long as still gas or all fuel etc., didnt seem to affect performance too much. I have a question, I have a chart that shows both those carbs as being All Fuel, the 72 for the Models AO and AR, 272000 and up, but it lists it as "All Fuel Single Induction" and the 53 (A 499000 - 583999) simply as "All Fuel". Are you familiar with or have any specs books or info etc discussing Single Induction??? I sure dont. Thanks n Take Care up North there.

John. I don't have anything specific on just single induction. All the single DLTX carbs were single induction. Most of my carb data is spread through many charts & info areas. Some day when I retire I will try to assemble it all in one data file.
~Usually when a chart or manual specifically refers to "single induction" that means the tractor model, or listing carried through into the DUAL induction era. The 60 comes to mind, as the early all-fuel used a single DLTX & the later used the dual DLTX, so in a lot of cases it will list the early as a single induction.

Evening Morgan, Im on late, we just got home but I will give you a lil info before I hit the sack. I believe the Wico C is the older Wico Model, while the Model X later replaced it, but either will work on your tractor and I think the X has slightly more spark energy anyway. I think to be absolutely correct police correct, there was a cut off year (forget the year though)before which they were equipped with the model C and later the model X. Ol John T Nordhoff
