we just bought a sharp looking 4230 this past week and this is the biggest tractor we have. I am wondering what will she pull? WE bought it primarily to pull our 3 shank Ungeverth subsoiler. She'll pull it I hope! How big of a plow will she pull? Disk and packer or rolling harrow? Anyone wnat to share some limits with me. Just curious what may look to upgrade?
We have a 60 horse Deutz and it has a tough time using our 10ft. bush hog. When the stalks are tough it bogs down at the groud speed we want I'm sure the 4320 should have no problem. Can't wait to see how she performs. Too cold and wet now!

I bought a 6x18 IH 720 plow because it was cheap and pulled it in A3&4 with my 4230 in silt loam soils with rocks. I was surprised and impressed. I've since removed a bottom and expect to pull the 5 bottom faster. IH semi mount plow pulls better than 4x16 JD mounted plow. I also pull a 10 shank chisel plow with twisted teeth with no problems. I'm the third owner of this tractor and it has 6400 hours but still is in good shape. My only complaint is how hard the tractor is to start. Must be plugged in or use ether below 60 F.

I ran a 4230 for years in west-central OH, combination of clay and blacksoil. Pulled a 5-16 plow and a 16-foot disk w/harrow with no problems. Duals helped the traction a lot with the disk. Also had a JD no-till planter, I don't remember the width, I think 14 foot. My uncle thought we'd need a 4430/40/50 for the no-till but the 4230 never complained. We also had a 7-foot rotary mower and the mower clutch would give out long before the motor would.

Compared to a 60-horse anything, you'll love it.

Is it a 4230 or a 4320? You mention both. The 4230 is the successor to the 4020, and the 4320 is a size bigger than the 4020. It is an important difference.

As you may already know the 4230 is 100 hp. It has the JD 404 engine but is naturally asperated as opposed to it's big brothers the 4230 and 4630. What it will pull depends upon soils etc. In my area the 4230 will pull a 4 bottom 18 inch plow most of the time. In other areas It will probably pull 5 no problem. I worked for a JD dealer at the time these were new. At first there was a problem with the perma clutch, they did a "recall" and fixed that. Was a prolem only on quad range and probably synchro though I never saw a synchro range on any of these. Never seemed to be any problems with the power shift either. They were pretty much a modernized 4020. Should be a good tractor for you.

this tractor apparently had the rear looked over and anything that was worn was fixed. This is a quad range tractor. We pull 4 bottom 14 in. plow with our 60 horse deutz. We sort of have sandy ground here on the coast in nDelaware. there are some hard spots in the low lying areas of our fields. Thanks
