DLTH 67 QUESTION

I have a DLTX 67 carburator that has a crack through the threads that hold the float bowl on. The crack is about an inch long. Am I safe to cut a small V, say 1/16" deep, drill a 1/8" hole at the top of the crack to keep it from running and TIG welding this up, file to original dia. and then work out the threads with a thread file ?
Or is there a better or easier way?

Dave, you could try it. I doubt you will have much luck TIG welding that casting. You would need a high nickel rod & it would be hard to repair the threads after that. You might try brazing it, brass holds pretty good on that old casting metal. I guess if it doesn't work out you could always cut the bottom off & install a new bottom thread section. I don't know if anybody is selling a new lower threaded stem. I usually make one on the lathe with a little sleeve sticking out, then counter bore the carb stem & silver solder it in...

I have a die for the stem threads, and this fall I was told it was the same as spark plug threads-----this is not a fact just a old mechanics knowledge.
