Recently bought a 2020 with JD 48 loader. This weekend the hydraulics were acting up on me. Everything worked fine when cooled down. After a little bit of use everything hydraulic just shut down.....no pressure on the lines. I am guessing that it worked long enough for the fluid to heat up and then it would quit. Could that be the wrong type of fluid, or too much fluid????? What is the correct fluid to use? Bought it used from a New Holland dealership.
Thanks.

Ordinary sae 140 gear lube etc added to the transmission will ruin the brakes. Either the system is full of ufo's as previously mentioned, the transmission charge pump is tired, the operator is using the loader with the clutch pedal depressed for more than 5-15 seconds or the main pump is done. The tractor is 30 years old, all bets are off. When using a loader install the direct return line filter cover and tap the hydraulic pressure at the lines near the brake pedals. A world of differnce.

Owl,

Since you purchased this used, obviously I am not privy to your warranty T&C's, what does the dealer say about your problem?

If this was an "as is" deal, then you better rely on all the other posts you get.

Could have detergent oil in it. Drain & use J D transhydraulic oil only,or may be a pressure relief valae sticking in pump

I would change the Hydraulic filter first off. And also the screen rite behing the hydraulic filter. It sits crossways in the tranny case behind a plug with a 1/2 inch female square drive recess for removal. There is one on the other side of the case to remove also. You will have to drain the tranny/rearend to remove the screen. If theres a lot of crud sticking to the strainer, usually red fibre chips, your brake linings are shot and have contaminated your hydraulic reservior. Drain and flush at the very least. I`d screen the oil also to find how much and what type of contaminant mite be giving you greif. (Helps in the diagnosis of tractor health.) Its those chips that plug the screen after things warm up and shut of oil flow to the main pump. At some point you will probably have to address the brakes.
