Could someone please tell me how to tell the difference between a Soundguard cab and a regular cab? How can I tell which one my 4430 has?

sound guard bodies came on 30 series tractors in the fall of 1972. after market companies made the old square box cabs for 30 series but not much of a cab compared to a SGB.

the door closes toward the tractor hood with the cab frame door in line with the muffler-then my friend you have a sound-guard cab. The front of the cab roof is also curved and green in color.

Your 4430 has a Sound-Gard body, if it is fully enclosed in glass. The Sound-Gard body was introduced on the 30 series (not avaialable on the 6030 though), and is the only factory cab available on the 30-60 series. If it has no glass, it's considered a Roll-Gard, and open-station tractors with no ROPS at all were available as well as two-post canopy tractors. The Sound-Gard was a quantum leap forward in terms of tractor cabs. They did away with the "box around the operator" and enclosed him in a rubber-mounted, fully isolated "body" - hence the name Sound-Gard body. All of the HVAC system is also fully integrated into the cab, not just hung on the outside like so many of Deeres competitors did it. Once the Sound-Gard was introduced, the other manufacturers were forced to step up and improve their operator's stations, which hadn't changed much in years.

Was the Sound Gard the quietest in the industry in the 70's? How many square feet of glass was there? Also what month of 1972 was the 30 series introduced?

I seem to recall the DBA being somewhere around 89 in the original literature, but it's been 25+ years since I first read it! We had a 4230 with the SG cab. It was very quiet! I partially opened the cab door a few times while plowing and could not believe the noise outside the cab. Anyone with a 4-point open ROPS would have to wear ear protection.

Joel, these cabs were one of the quietest available when they were introduced in August, 1972. Allis-Chalmers later introduced a cab that (they said) was quieter, although I have been in them and they don't seem that way. These JD cabs had about 40 square feet of glass area. Hope this helps. Mike

Thanks, it sounded like maybe there were two different type cabs available for this tractor.
