MT was running great for 2+ weeks, long durations, starts right up. after starting her yesterday, died out after 3-4 minutes...tank, fuel line, carb-inlet valve and screen all clean, but gas would only drip into bowl slowly when valve turned on...then opened carb drain-cock and fuel flowed freely. Float set @ 1/4" perfectly-no holes either...Sorry for the problem guys, your help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem with a 580 Case backhoe a while back. I took the sediment bowl off to clean it and put it back on and the engine would only run for just a minute and die. I checked the fuel flow at the carb and there wasn't much flow. I started it again and noticed an air gap at the very top of the sediment bowl. All I did was loosen the bowl and turn it slightly to get a better seal and tightened the clamp. Worked fine ever since. I'm still not sure why this happened but maybe this will help.

Mornin Tom, How do you know or test that gas drips slowly into bowl when fuel turned on????? If the bowl were empty when that test began, it would take a while to build up enough reservoir till she ran out the bottom versus dripping. If it runs freely out the drain cock when opened for a long period, the gas tank outlet and sediment bowl and needle valve/seat etc are probably not restricted, and it may be an internal carb problem. Turn gas off and drain the bowl, then open the bottom drain cock and turn gas on, and tell us what happens. Good luck, Ol John T

Tom, it kind of sounds like your bowl vent might be plugged.
~How did you determine the gas would only drip into the bowl slowly? Is it possible the bowl was already full & the float/needle had the flow shut off?
~If it does in fact have a fuel flow problem into the bowl with the drain valve closed but not open then it sounds like the bowl air can't get out. Usually in that case though it pushes fuel out the main jet & into the carb throat.
~Just to clarify the problem, open the carb drain valve & make sure you have a good sized stream of fuel flowing out for AT LEAST 30 seconds plus. If you do, your problem is in the carb passages. If it doesnt flow for AT LAEST 30 seconds you have a fuel restriction in the tank, lines or shut-off..

Tom, you might try loosening the gas tank cap also.
