I am powering a sawmill with my black-dash 820. It does a decent job but it hardly smokes under heavy load. Pumps and injectors have less than 25 hrs since rebuild. I have backed the rack adjustment screw almost all the way out with very little change. Today changed the fuel filters and no change. Should`nt it really pour out the black smoke under heavy load? Also engine has less than 25 hrs on complete rebuild and valve job. Where should I look next?

Black smoke is wasted fuel. The 820 engines were so efficient that very little smoke was produced under heavy load, even with the fuel turned up. All that excessive black smoke does is tell you that the engine is overfueled. If your 820 will drive your sawmill, why worry about how much black smoke it's making?

If the compression is up,the coolant at 195, the entire air intake system clean, no restriction from debrie in the exhaust system, new injector tips spraying at 2200+ psi you will see little smoke at 75HP. We are used to seeing worn/cold engines with fuel racks at max in a field where the blue smoke really shows with green trees in the background. What does she do on the dyno?

Lloyd, it depends on the load & engine temperature but you will usually get black smoke under heavy load. How is the power output?
~I guess I would check the fuel filters & the primary fuel pressure from the transfer pump. Those transfer pumps tend to wear & lower the transfer pump pressure & that will effect the power & amount of fuel metered. Also, it might not hurt to check the governor to make sure it can open the racks all the way under load...
