My 35 fan slipped up the shaft into the radiator fins. How do I fix this? The radiator now has a ring that leaks that I'm going to have repaired.

John, we're going to need a little more information from you. Did the whole fan [hub & all] move forward,,, or fan, hub, & shaft move forward,,, or did the fan come loose from the hub?

The fan hub and rubber inside the hub moved up off the shaft. I think that the metal part that is on the shaft was once one piece with the fan hub and is supposed to only come on and off the splined part of the fan shaft.

John, are you saying the fan center sleeve [the part that slides over the fan shaft splines] is still in place but the rubber hub pulled off the hub center?

John, in that case you will have to call around & see if you find another [good] rubber center fan. ~Those original rubber hub fans are very hard to find in good condition [most are like yours & about to fail from deteriorated rubber], OR, update your fan to the replacement friction drive fan, clutch, hubs, spring, & other related parts. The easiest way is to buy the whole later [replacement fan assembly] from the same place. If you call around you should be able to locate a friction drive fan.

Does a friction drive on a tractor that is going to be restored a no-no or does it matter on a good restoration. I'm fairly certain you will say yes to original to be most correct. I'm trying to guage the importance. Does anyone repair them? I will probably end up putting a set screw on the old one and come back to it later. I'm in high school and have to keep on a budget with this project.

John, I really can't answer you on that friction disk drive being a no-no. It was a Deere authorized replacement as the rubber ones failed. You see an awful lot of early tractors with the later friction disk fans.
~I don't know about that set screw, if it comes loose again it will probably cost you a radiator.
