Ed, knowing how good the rubber is in that fan hub is a subjective call. Most are starting to dry rot by now. About all you can do is look for deteriorating rubber coming out of the hub & put the fan back on the splined shaft & wobble the blades back & forth & feel for excess blade movement.
~As far as the front bearing retainer goes; before you pry the old one out you better make sure you can get a new one, I'm pretty sure you won't get the old one out by prying on it without damaging it. I usually just remove the fan shaft & tube from the tractor, then pull the fan shaft, then use a long rod with a bent end inserted from the back of the tube & up through the center of the tube to drive the front bearing & retainer out together.
~If you pull the fan tube from the governor make sure to save the rear gasket as that is also a bearing spacing shim & must remain the same thickness for fan gear alignment..... ..
