Drawbar hole dimension?

Does anyone know what the diameter of the hole(s)on a 1955 Model 60 drawbar should be? (Deere #A4822R)
It's become "out of round" (to say the least) over the years. Am I better off taking it to a weld shop to be welded up and drilled back out or drilling out larger and sleeving/bushing it?
Thanks!

Al in Iowa

Al me again, do not weld and drill, just take a old battery for a elrctric fencer and smak it apart---take the carbon rod out and weld around it. Weld will not stick to it and will be a perfect hole. There may be other sorces for the carbon rods, but I do not know of any. Dave

Your local weldshop may have some Carbon lying around just for this purpose.

I believe drawbar pins are 3/4", but you better measure yours to make sure. Allow 1/16" for clearance. That makes the hole 13/16".

Another source of Carbon is machine shops. Carbon rods are used as electrodes in Electric Discharge machines (EDM's). These machines are fairly common in larger shops. If there are shops located near you, they should be able to furnish the rod in any size you want.

I should have said that welding a drawbar is not for the inexperienced. They are made from tool Steel and should to be welded according to specific procedures. If these procedures are not followed, you can end up with a brittle drawbar that could break at any time. This is especially important if you plan to do a lot of heavy work with your 60.
