Ed, I can help you a little [at least enough to confuse you more].
~The AB-3300R fan is a replacement fan that is used with the friction clutch system. I think your 44 originally came with the AB-1530R rubber hub fan assembly. [is there a stamped number on your fan/hub?]
~The part I'm not too sure about is exactly when the rubber hub was phased out & the friction drive was brought into production.
~I know the rubber center fan assembly was used as original on the unstyled A's & that fan was carried well into the styled A. The part I haven't ever been able to figure out is exactly how far into the styled era that rubber center fan was used. ~We usually don't get a question like yours, it is usually the other way around in that people have an early A with the friction center fan & want to know if it's original.
~The thing about yours is; most of the rubber center fans have been replaced with friction disk units as the rubber deteriorated in the early fans & the Deere replacement was the later friction center fan.
~If you can ever confirm exactly when the rubber center was discontinued, & the friction disk went into production let me know.
~As far as rebuilding; I doubt you could do it yourself & I don't know of anyplace that does rebuild them. Most people just replace it with the AB-3300R friction center fan asembly & related friction hub parts....
