What does FFA stand for?; used to be Future Farmers of America, when I was a member in the late 50's-early 60's. Back then, you had to 'take' Vocational Agriculture in order to be a member. Now, the local high school doesn't even offer Vocational Agriculture. They've got 100 plus members; there's not a true "future farmer" (no capitals) in the bunch. Not knocking the students; just an observation by an old fogey.

Thurlow,
The FFA now represents "The National FFA Organization", which grew out of the switch from vo-ag to agricultural education. This switch was made to help encompass and draw non-farm students to the wide area of agricultural careers available (processing, food science, horticulture, landscaping, and yes -ole faithful production agriculture.) An idea to help non-farm people to understand where their food comes from.

Our FFA had tractor day every year in Feburary for FFA week. I had so much fun that even this year as a freshman in college a couple of my buddies and I drove back home this last Friday to watch the boys roll through town after school. A beautiful sight if I do say so. If your going to do it you've got to be safe and obey the rules. And dont let any city boy such as a high school principal bull ya around. Tractors are just as legal as cars when driven on the road properly. If ya need help let me know because as the past secretary for our chapter I did a lot of letter writing. Good luck and God bless

I certainly encourage the Tractor Day by any youth group involved in vocational agriculture--and it's for Boys and Girls--Not just boys or just girls. Show your tractors with the pride of ownership and accomplisment and operate them with safety foremost and professional skill. The urban multitudes will be watching, show them your maturity and dignity.

We drove our tractors to school for FFA week when I was in high school a couple years ago. Had a great time, but did it in Feb. so it was little cold. Got in trouble because we all went through the McDonalds drive through on them. Then got in trouble for drag racing in the parking lot. Had alot of fun though. Be careful and have fun. Tractor Day is a great way to get people to find out about whats going on in the FFA. Most principles don't care as long as you send them a writen letter telling why you want to do this. Our Chapter didn't do much unless we were wearing our OFFICIAL DRESS, but tractor day showed alot of people we did more than get dressed up and have a banquet. The more you put into FFA the more you get out of it. So, have fun driving your tractor to school.

Both great organizations for young people. Both need our support. There are a number of schools where they have a tractor day! Neat idea.
