Carb for A; Update

Been so busy lately that I haven't had time to visit the site. Took the A out Sunday. Runs much better. Under load, it's great. At an idle, it's pretty good. At fast idle, it is still a little rocky. I think I'll just run it a while to see if use helps. I can't clean that carb any better than I did. And the choke is tight. And the flutters close completly.

Thanks to all that offered help. Much Appreciated!

Denny, sounds like you are making progress... Did you find any plugged holes in the main nozzle? If so you might want to run it for a while then pull the nozzle back out & check the holes again, [sometimes it will pick some dirt back up until it is used for a while].

~If it is still unstable at fast idle, you could still have a slight carb problem. While at fast idle it is running on both the main nozzle & idle circuit so you could still have a plugged idle transfer hole. You might also play with the economizer plug to see if you can alter the part throttle metering a little.

~How was the throttle plate? If it isn't centered in the bore or has worn ends it can effect the fast idle & cause an air leakage that can effect the part throttle metering.

~Try setting the idle needle to 2 turns out from seated & setting the load needle to 1 turn out from seated to see if that will improve the fast idle quality.

~Just as a "see what happens" you might try putting the choke back on a little while it's at fast idle, if that helps the fast idle you probably still have slight blockage somewhere. If it doesn't help, your problem probably lies somewhere else & maybe more run time will help.

~Keep us posted on your progress as you move along..... .

Way to go there Denny and thanks for keepin us all posted on your progress. I agree, just run her a while for now and maybe tweak the carb top load and idle needles a tad now and then and see how she does. Its best, of course, to adjust the load needle under load if you have one you can apply to the old girl, but it sounds like you have come a long way and are in the "Short Rows" for now. Those seem simple at times, but there's so darn many lil things goin on in the carb and passages and nozzle plus timing and ignition issues and they ALL gotta be right.
