What would be a comparable Deere model to a 1949 Minneapolis Moline UTU? Thank You. John Kauzlaric

We ran a "G" & a "UTU" in the late 50s & early 60s. In completly stock form, the "U" was slightly more powerful than the "allfuel" "G". When we bored the U .125 & installed "M&W" pistons & an "M5" intake manifold, and also bored the "G" a like amount & installed a "cold" manifold, they were just about even at about 50-52 hp each. As I remember it the "U" used a little less fuel, but the "G" was much more "operator friendly" - Better seating position, much better hydraulics, & a better selection of field speeds.

The D or G.

A "D" (44 hp)can be "tweeked" a bit to give it the ponies, and a "G" converted to run on gas would make 48 hp easily. The "R" is more properly in the realm of the MM "G" series.

My book shows the UTU being built until 1955. by that time, a 70 would have become it's prime competitor, and also, my book shows 45 hp, not 48 for the UTU.
