Tractorgirl,
There's a GREAT book on the history of John Deere (both as a person and his resulting company). It is a VERY detailed account of his beginnings clear through the company's history to approximately 1980. It's probably the best book I've ever read if you want to know everything (and more?) there ever was to know about the people and machinery associated with Deere throughout history.
The book is now out of print but most any decent-sized library probably has a copy:
"John Deere's Company - A History of Deere & Company And It's Times". Author is Wayne G. Broehl, Jr. - ISBN #0-385-19664-4
Good Luck!

Al,

You're abosolutely right!! Great book, and I read dang near all of it years ago. I still refer to it from time to time - more info in there than one man can absorb, but Tractorgirl can find whatever she needs there.

Stan,
"dang near read all of it.."?? You're supposed to finish the book.

The link below should have enough info for a report up through the 6th to 8th grade - or maybe a 300 level course at Purdue.

Stay warm down there....

Steve
