Does a Wico X magneto fire exactly 180 degrees apart?

The way I see it, depending on how the tangs are put back in the coupler, will make the difference of which order to put the spark plug wires in the distributor cap.

Mornin cheg, Well, it fires every 180 degrees, maybe not EXACTLY but very close. The Wico C and X both fire that way, each pistons TDC on BOTH the Compression Power Stroke and Exhaust. Thats why if its installed 180 out of corect (it only can fit in one way or the other, so a 50/50 chance), reversing the plug wires makes her run again. Some other brand of mags like the Fairbanks Morse, I believe, only fire at TDC on the Power stroke. Take care n God Bless Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana

Thanks for the help. I had the mag off the tractor and could not see how I would be wrong as long as I had fire on the LH impulse.

The mags fires twice for each cylinder, one on the compression and one on the exhaust for each cylinder. If you revolve the mag 180 you will need to reverse the wires.

Cheg, yes, the Wico X fires as close as it can to 180... There might be a little variation due to points cam wear, bushing wear, shaft run-out, or the drive coupler off center a little, but by design it is supposed to fire at 180. The plug wires can be installed in the cap 180 backwards if the mag is installed with the drive coupler backwards. The Wico X spins the same RPM as the crankshaft so it actually fries every time the pistons come to TDC [even on the exhaust stroke].....
