Same engine that was used in the 435 and the 440 wheel tractors. 3.875x4.50 bore and stroke 1850 R.P.M. Compression ratio 17:1 106.2 cubic inches. 26.15 drawbar HP. 32.88 HP at the PTO. Maximum pull 7,060#. Interesting that the same engine in the wheeled 435 was rated at at 28.41 drawbar HP and 32.91 at the PTO And max pull was 4,241#. IN the 440 it was rated at 27.51 HP at the drawbar and 32.70 at the PTO, with a max pull 4,362#.

The later 440 Crawlers had the RPM's increaced from 1850 RPM to 2200 RPM"S at were rerated at NEB putting out 24.23 HP at the drawbar and 31.91 HP at the PTO and had a max pull of 6,548.

The late 440 gasers had a larger carb and more compression along with the extra rpm's. The late Dubuque 440 gas and the 520/530 engines were fairly high output units all things considered.

Interesting, the 430 crawler was not tested as it was the same engine as the 420 crawler. The 420 crawler was rated at 24.12 drawbar HP and 29.72 HP at the PTO and had a max pull of only 4,862#. But it spun out past what NEB would allow and was rated with part throttle to get it below the allowable slip. We have a 430 crawler with a 90 loader factory 3PT and the PTO. We really like it.
